Apple Watch Saves Life after a Couple falls off a Cliff

Highlights

  • Apple’s unique “fall detection feature” noticed a sudden fall and called 911 when a young couple in New Jersey fell off a cliff.
  • This is not the first time that Apple’s “fall detection feature” has helped save a life.

The couple—James Prudenciano and his date Paige Paruso were hiking in a park.

According to the News 12 report, Prudenciano fell into the river in the Hartshorne Woods Park and landed on a rock.

“I was screaming that I’m going to die because I really felt I was going to die. There was no way out of this for me,” said Prudenciano.

Apple Watch Detected Prudenciano’s Fall

Thanks to the built-in fall detection feature of Apple watch, it immediately called 911. Apple watch also sent three Emergency SOS text messages to Prudenciano’s mother indicating that her son is going through an emergency.

The couple was successfully rescued from the river by boat.

Later on, they got transferred to Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.

Prudenciano suffered three fractures in his back.

Apple’s Fall Detection Feature

Apple’s incredible fall detection feature detects a sudden fall and calls emergency services if the user doesn’t dismiss the alert within one minute of falling.

Additionally, if the user has filled an emergency contact, then Apple Watch sends a text message with the location of a sudden fall.

It’s not the first time that Apple Watch saved a Life

Previously, Apple’s fall detection feature had saved a man’s life when he fell from his bike at Spokane.

His son wrote a message on Facebook thanking Apple Watch for the prompt action.
