Amit success of Spider-Man movies, Sony announced Spider-Man’s exit from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.
However, Spider-Man and MCU fans do not need to worry as Disney has reached a deal with Sony for Marvel Studios to keep Spidy in the MCU.
The partnership between Sony and Marvel has delivered the $880.2 million-grossing Spider-Man: Homecoming and the $1.1 billion “Spider-Man: Far From Home. The deal ended in August. Later on, as per the reports, Marvel bailed on the arrangement regarding a dispute of financing future films.
According to the renewed deal, Spider-Man will be staying in the MCU and Marvel Studios Head—Kevin Feige will produce the upcoming “Spider-Man” film. Similarly, Amy Pascal will also produce through Pascal Pictures, as she did for the first two films.
“This has been a winning partnership…” Amy Pascal
Amy said, “This is terrific. Peter Parker’s story took a dramatic turn in Far From Home and I could not be happier we will all be working together as we see where his journey goes.” She added, “This has been a winning partnership for the studios, the franchise and the fans and I’m overjoyed it will continue.”
Next Spider-Man in 2021
Currently, there are still two upcoming “Spider-Man” films in development with star Tom Holland and director John Watts together.
The next Spider-Man film is scheduled for release in 2021.
“We are very excited to keep working on it,” Feige
Feige said in a statement, “I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it”.
He further added, “Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s most beloved characters and one of the most popular assets till date. In 1999, after facing issues related with bankruptcy, Marvel sold the Spider-Man film rights to Sony.
After a well appreciated Tobey Maguire trilogy and two another Spider-Man films starring Andrew Garfield, Marvel and Sony agreed on a partnership to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Holland’s Spider-Man journey began in “Captain America: Civil War” and later he appeared in Avengers as well as in two Spider-Man movies.
